Remembering Black History Month through photos

Breaking Barriers Beyond Belief was this year's Black History Month cultural celebration theme. The Heritage Month planning committee shared a series of events with our community in February and we'd like to share some memories here through a photo essay of activities.

Activities included an opening ceremony with music and dance; an annual national African-American read-in; a cultural celebration hour; film screening of the documentary 13TH, sponsored by the Foothill College Umoja Community program; artist talk with photographer Ron Herman about his Messengers for Peace project and the reception for the opening of his photo exhibit; a field trip to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University; and film screening of the documentary Touba.

Enjoy photographs of the events by clicking through our Black History Month 2017 Flickr album.  For a complete detailed description of each activity, download the Black History Month 2017 flyer.
